Mama Care Monday: Honey Lemon Conditioning Treatment
7:58:00 AM
Yesterday I had the pleasure of relaxing, relating, and releasing at Spring Lake beach in NJ with my family and good friends. Although it was hot as h.e. 🏒🏒! had 6 children btwn us all ranging from baby, toddler, approaching tweens, blowing tents in the wild wind, and vicious "sand flies" out for blood (since when did flies bite?), we all had an amazing time. Despite getting up every five minutes to attend to some little ones needs and making sure no one got carried out by the tide, I was definitely able to still relax and have some time for mama. With us parents going in shifts watching and entertaining the kids, when I had my moment I took full advantage. I took my Mommie moment and did a self care DIY treatment of lightening my hair naturally and deep conditioning after taking my twist out that had been in for almost three months, yikes! It doesn't matter what noise literally and figuratively is going on in the background, taking those few moments to acknowledge, treat, and love yourself goes a long way. Doing this DIY honey/lemon hair treatment made me so excited because I knew once I got home and washed it out, how amazing my hair would look and feel after, hope it can bring you guys a little sunshine and you enjoy it as much as me. Remember mamas, you need to invest in yourself so that you can continue to invest in others......until next Monday.
Honey/lemon conditioning hair lighting treatment:
~ Lemon juice, diluted half and half with distilled water, will lighten dark blond or light brown hair and won’t leave reddish tones unless your hair already has them.
~ Honey creates nice subtle highlights and softer hair due to the many characteristics. Hair is actually nourished and enriched, it is food for the hair.
~ Cinnamon has antioxidants and natural sunscreen that will protect your hair from the damaging rays of the sun and add a deeper richer color to your hair the longer it's left on.
Cayenne pepper speeds up the process of the color, adding that extra kick of spice.
~ Olive oil is truly a powerhouse when it comes to hair, skin and beauty applications. Its rich, moisturizing properties make it ideal for use on your hair. While you may immediately think of olive oil for cooking, keeping a bottle of olive oil handy in your bathroom can help your hair look healthier, stronger and shinier.
Ingredients:
•2 tablespoons of raw honey
• juice from one to two lemons depending on length of hair
• 2 teaspoons of cinnamon
• 1/2 cup of olive oil
• pinch of cayenne pepper
• 1 cup of distilled water
DIRECTIONS:
Squeeze the juice from lemon(s) into a ceramic bowl adding the water. Warm ¼ cup of honey and add ¼ cup olive oil, add to lemon and water combination. Add cinnamon, cayenne, stir well to combine. Apply to your hair using a bottle with a spout or spray bottle where you want the highlights or lighter color, and leave on for 30-60 minutes. Sitting in the sun is ideal because it warms the ingredients in your hair activating it as a deep hot oil treatment as well. About 5 minutes before you wash it out, work it into all of your hair, focusing on ends. Wash out well. If you are using the shower to wash it out, be very careful as oil can create a very slippery surface.
Let me know how it goes, and hope you enjoy!
