Mama Care Monday's: The Cleaning Product You Need (DIY)
11:39:00 AM
Isn't it cool when you have those rare moments when you make a discovery about something that ends up bringing you a lot of benefit and has been staring you in the face for a while but you neglected to pay that much attention to before? For example, when you decide to finally get around to cleaning in between your couches, a place that usually goes neglected during a routine cleaning (I know it does for me) and you find $5. You might have just been saying to yourself how you need cash or exactly $5 for something. Or perhaps like this past weekend when I made the discovery to use Palmolive "dish detergent" to clean my bathroom specifically for the grime in my tub and toilet. Yes, you heard me, that's right, dish detergent..... So let me be clear, I am all about the green cleaning, non-toxic, Eco-friendly products, especially when it comes to cleaning agents for my home. However when I do clean, the products I use definitely work I just have to really scrub and go through a series of steps to make sure it's not only clean but disinfected as well. Let's be honest, for me I feel like some of the organic Eco-friendly cleaning products out there, although they are way safer and free of toxic agents, sometimes aren't tough enough to remove serious dirt from high traffic areas such as the bathroom. There are a few brands that I really like, use all time, and that do the job like: Meyers, some 7th generation, Method for the bathroom, and this new brand I discovered.
When that horrible Exxon oil Valdez spill happened in 1989 which leaked insurmountable amounts of oil into the ocean, in order to salvage and save the remaining marine life the rescuers used "Dawn" to remove the oil out of the feathers and skin of the animals. Now if it's strong enough to remove crude oil, imagine what it does to a little bit of bathroom dirt?
I would still consider myself environmentally conscious and using the mixture of baking soda, vinegar, and a commercial brand dish detergent, works really well and I can rest easier knowing my bathrooms are super clean and still toxin free. I would encourage you mommies to try this combination the next time you are cleaning and let me know what you think!
DIY:
- 2/3 cups baking soda
- 1/2 cup liquid dish detergent soap
- 1/2 cup of hot boiling water
- 2 cups of white vinegar
- 1 clean 16-ounce squirt or spray bottle.
- Mix baking soda and liquid soap in a bowl, and put vinegar into a spray bottle. Spray tub and toilet with vinegar first. Then get a bowl with a mixture, take a scrub pad and start to clean. Or spray first with vinegar then lightly dust the tub with baking soda, add dish detergent and let it sit for a while. Come back with hot water in a bowl and start cleaning then.
Note: the pictures are taken after I cleaned because there was no way I was showing pics of my tub when it was dirty
Remember mama's invest in yourself so that you can continue to invest in others. Even if it's making your daily routine a little easier to handle and maintain.
