Baby Skin
7:03:00 PMI am pretty much considered the granola, tree-hugging, "hippie chic" one in my family. The one that is always lecturing or min-lecturing my family about eating healthy, stating the importance of living a more green lifestyle with the products we use on and the food we ingest in our bodies. That's not always easy to get through to a large family that culturally loves certain types of greasy, highly saturated foods, and products they have been around since the Eisenhower days, pre-FDA regulated. However, it comes to no surprise that one of the major large companies that have been established for a very long time, finally admitted to their products containing carcinogens. The list of chemicals that Johnson&Johnson state they will be removing from their products, half of them you can't even pronounce? I know I cant, so it leads me to my next couple of questions, 1) if you can't pronounce it, barely can spell it, why is it necessary to be used in the formulation of the product? 2) why can't these type of companies make use of the large factories they manufacture and use, organic and/or non chemical components to make and preserve the lotions, soaps, shampoo, etc.... ? It always baffles me because an aspect of my brand, I make all the herbal homeopathic bath-body care products handmade and because I am a small operation and can't afford all of those chemicals, my products are naturally and/or organically preserved and specified to use within a 12 month shelf life period. According to the articles, the reason behind using the chemicals is because it keeps out, eradicates, and from spreading, growth of mold and bacteria. However when something is "live" it also has a period when it gets old and soils so that is a good indicator that live cells are going on the skin which operates much like a third lung. I get that bacteria can grow, but wouldn't this fare much better than "plastic" or foreign chemicals going on the skin and especially a babies and toddlers skin that is susceptible and still establishing? So why use these types of products on our children........ Johnson and Johnson finally admits their baby products contain cancer causing chemicals
and this one from holistic living
A product that I am very proud of and that has helped me immensely is Ian's Secret's baby/toddler organic travel toiletry kit from my brand Myrtle&Flossie herbal homeopathic bath/body care line. I created this with parents in mind who don't want to sacrifice quality, non-chemical, paraben free organic products while traveling within or out of the country. We also have a small line of products within the line specifically made to address an array of growing baby/toddler skin conditions. You can find more products and info at www.myrtleandflossie.com
Whether you are traveling or not, it is very important to be a conscious and informed consumer of what type of ingredients are going into the products you love and want to put on baby's skin. Remember baby's skin is delicate and is establishing as baby grows, so just be wise and take the extra step to do the research now so you won't regret nor have a situation later.......
