love, this water bottle has unique, cool, and simple engineering to
allow you to create your own version of true vitamin, antioxidant, and
electrolyte agua using Mother Earth made sources of sugar..... Fruit!
It's perfect for me given my recent health news and how I have to scale
back on the glucose (no more store bought juice for me) however I am able to give my daughter
"juice" natural and organic made on the spot! Guilt free of giving her
something "sweet" to drink, free of all the preservatives, corn syrup,
and other non-pronounceable ingredients not ideal for growing kids. Also
perfect for diabetics managing their glycemic index on a strict
nutrition regime, however still wanting to enjoy food and/or drinks on the sweeter
side without having to adversely pay for it later on.
As my daughter is getting older, I am constantly on a quest cleaning, organizing, and sorting through her perpetual toy area. I enjoy watching her explore, using her imagination and self-playing but it's not like we have exactly that much space that divides our living room from the dining room. It kinda of runs into one another with her toy area in between, so when she really spreads out or has a play-date with a couple of friends over, forget it! its like explosion of toys everywhere. With each year and the seasons coming and going, I give away the toys/games that she no longer plays with nor realizes they exist anymore and try to find more age appropriate (less messy items) learning, developmental, and fun toys that engage and keep her attention for more than a nanosecond. With that being said, one thing that she uses and "plays" with religiously are the play-doh egg surprise videos that are on YouTube. The word obsessed doesn't even begin to describe how my daughter is with these videos, for those of you parents who haven't introduced electronics into your toddler or preschooler's life or if you have, and just haven't had the misfortune of discovering play-doh eggs, trust you are lucky. They are these video "tutorials ( and I use that word lightly) where random "grown ass" adults open up chocolate eggs, and/or small chotchke containers, stating what the containments are inside on screen with the camera showing only their hands, and you would swear my daughter was watching a nail-biting episode of Game of Thrones or Scandal not to mention the million of followers some of these people have (I swear I am in the wrong business) for opening toy eggs???
Not to bash the next man's hustle, hey whatever works, however, one day while she was routinely watching her videos, I noticed this particular one where they were reviewing this cool new toy "squishy human body parts" by SmartLab toys. She wasn't the only into the video, this toy really drew me in as well. It's this toy model size clear human figure with a hole in the center of the body where the particular organs and skeletal structure of the human body would be kept. This is one video that not only I don't mind watching, but I was amazed at how my little one was so into it, paying attention, and trying to identify on her own body, where certain parts and organs go. Her discovery of this new toy couldn't have come at a better time as she was on the tail end of a wicked stomach infection and was wondering what was inside her that was making her so sick and her belly hurting so bad. With this new toy we got her, she can identify, learn body parts inside and out, and see where her particular organs and what not are located giving her a better idea of how things work within her system. Not to mention its just a cool toy and I love how the actual organs are squishy, mimicking what they would probably feel like in real life. I definitely recommend this toy for entertainment, learning, and occupying time purposes and this is one video that I don't mind seeing. I was able to look it up immediately and of course, you know where I found it.......Amazon. Here is the direct link where you can get it:
"Who wears short shorts, we wear short shorts!" is what I used to hear all the time being played on tv, the infamous Nair commercials for their hair removal products. Throughout the years I have tried a multitude of at home, DIY, self-maintenance waxing products, trying to save a pretty penny, and though some have worked, a lot were just gimmicks that had attractive packaging with a whole lot of promise and very little action. So to my surprise, when I came across Nair's roll on clay wax hair removal, I was astonished not only by how well it worked but it definitely passed the test of being an affordable, good, and (most importantly) relatively easy at home product to use for self-care and maintenance.
Being a mom, I rarely have a moment to myself, let alone scheduled inconsistent grooming so when the opportunity arises, I absolutely take my "mommy moments" however, let's be honest......with my busy work and life schedule, it doesn't always happen. So when I need something in a pinch and/or have a few minutes to spare, I really like this product. Trust I still go to the professionals for the big waxing jobs and upkeep areas, (mainly down under) but for the pits and the legs which tend to go unnoticed and right when you have to go somewhere or summer rolls around and the hair is so long on your legs you can braid it, this roll-on wax gets the job done for $8.99... you can't beat that! When I do my DIY spa day Sunday's, this falls right in line. *bonus!* it smells great, natural, and non-harmful. It comes in honey or clay which is the one I like the best. Here is a video tutorial from Nair so you can see how it works:
Whether you have 1 min, 1 hour, or 1 sec, always make time for you. Remember mamas, invest in yourself so that you may continue to invest in others. Until next Monday......
One thing that is so amazing while being pregnant besides incubating and creating life are some of the hair, skin, and nail perks that come with it. While expecting, women naturally produce extra hormones to support a growing baby in utero which can be extremely beneficial to a woman, particularly for the growth of her hair and nails. Not to mention the "pregnancy glow", I am sure you have heard, made mention yourself, and/or been on the receiving end when individuals exclaim in excitement how amazing pregnant women look....."you are glowing" being the quintessential catchphrase. That's mainly due to the result of the extra production of oil in the sebaceous glands.
Women who prior to being pregnant had short or slow growing hair, due to the extra development of hormones during pregnancy can sometimes experience faster growing and lengthier hair. Sounds great right!......sadly it does come to an end, and all of what was gained while expecting, leaves after the birth of the baby, mainly in the form of the placenta. Which by the way, I am a huge advocate for placenta encapsulation and/or consuming the placenta in some form. However, that is a conversation for another time......

"Postpartum hair loss" not so attractive words and not fun to experience especially for new moms unaware of it happening. Some women experience during the earlier stages of post, while others don't see shedding until a few weeks post, whenever it begins and once it happens, hair loosens around the edges, in the crown, and/or back and literally comes out in clumps and it's no small wonder that you don't end up bald? When it was happening to me, although very startling to see handfuls of hair in my hands after barely touching it, I wasn't too panicked because I was prepared and had an amazing hair concoction that I used pre-pregnancy and was able to use post-pregnancy that helped restore and grow my hair back during the momentary lost.
Ian's Secret pre-wash conditioning hair oil treatment is an excellent hair product infused with herbal botanicals, carrier, and essential oils mixed together in a specific combination that makes it a potent product and benefits the hair by promoting growth, deep conditioning, and fortifies the hair shaft from root to tip. One of the first products created in our homeopathic bath/body care line, I made it during a time when I was modeling full time and my hair was constantly being done, damaged, overworked, fried, processed, colored, etc.....for different jobs and no matter what, it always got my hair back right leaving it shiny, conditioned, and super healthy. Trust, achieving a head full of healthy hair while modeling is no easy accomplishment.
Great for all hair types: course, kinky, wavy, curly, different ethnicities; black, white, middle eastern, Spanish, older or younger, whichever, it is an overall good treatment for hair. Optimally, leave in hair for 1-2 days before washing, prior to any chemical treatment, and/or your regularly scheduled salon visit. You want the oil to saturate and soak in completely before washing it out. If time is of the essence, do 1-4 hours under a plastic cap while at home, or at least 30 minutes with a plastic cap under a heat source in a salon to properly coat the scalp. After washing out, hair is softer, more manageable with shine, and moisturized from root to tip. Promotes and stimulates hair growth. Great product to use for postpartum hair loss and will help restore moisture, getting hair back to pre-pregnancy state sooner.

FYI, Great shower gifts for an expecting mama. Remember mom's, invest in yourself so that you can continue to invest in others.
There are many advantages to breastfeeding, one being that it is way less expensive than formula (that stuff is pricey!) And although, breastfeeding is a key bonding time for mama and baby, it's not always that easy for some women to do. A good percentage of first time moms have extreme difficulty in the first few weeks of babies life trying to nurse due to inverted or recessed nipples, issues with proper latching, physical restriction of baby, physical issues with mom, the list goes on and on. However, whatever the reason may be, not being able to feed your baby can stress a lot of moms out, causing or triggering an overwhelming amount of emotions than can lead to PPD. It is important to always keep in mind that just as important as it is to care for and provide proper nutrition for baby, moms need to do the same for themselves. Like I always say, if mama is not ok, baby isn't ok either or isn't getting enough to sustain. When breastfeeding, a woman needs to consume almost double her amount of calories so that she can provide nutrition to the baby and still restore and replenish for herself.
I discovered recently through a client of mine, these convenient Medela brand clear nipple shields for breastfeeding.
A nipple shield is a flexible silicone nipple that is worn over the mom’s nipple during a feeding. Nipple shields should, in general, be considered a short-term solution and should be used under the guidance of a lactation consultant. Often, nipple shields are recommended within the first few days of birth. These shields are really great for new moms who experience difficulty while breastfeeding due to inverted or recessed nipples, this will help to draw them out and make sure baby is getting the adequate intake.
Also, mama needs to make sure she has an adequate postpartum diet and eating a high fiber, high protein, and "good" saturated fat foods for recovery. If there is an issue with mom such as low blood sugar and mama is feeling light headed, dizzy, etc.... handle the situation by getting a proper combination of foods and don't hesitate to integrate similac or formula to substitute while mama gets herself together. This way the baby is still getting some form of food and nutrition, while mama is sorting her situation out.
If an issue persists, then seek medical attention. It is extremely important that mama is feeling ok and has the right amount of intake so that she can continue to produce a quality milk supply. Remember mamas, take care of yourself so that you can continue to take care of others.......until next Monday!
Babywearing is the practice of wearing or carrying a baby in a sling or in another form of carrier. Babywearing has been practiced for centuries around the world. In the industrialized world, babywearing has gained popularity in recent decades. Part of the reason for this shift is due to the influence of advocates of attachment parenting. Babywearing is a form of baby transport which can be enjoyed for as long as mutually desired, often until toddlerhood and beyond

Taking a page from our ancestors' book and other civilizations when it comes to child rearing and soothing, one of
the practices that I particularly like and find beneficial to mothers, especially new moms, is the practice of "Babywearing". Wearing your baby not only soothes the child but also promotes or sets off a chemical bond between mother and child alleviating a lot of post "baby blues" and possible triggers for PPD....postpartum depression. Being hands-free, while simultaneously being able to care for your child, providing nourishment, and stimulation is paramount to a mother. It soothes mama mentally and emotionally as well, helping her so that she can be free and continue to help others.

One of the carrier's in particular that I like and used when my daughter was young is the K'tan which we carry @myrtleandflossie (no pun intended) based off the cloth wearing done in more rural civilizations and cultures, the K'tan in my personal opinion, achieves the same goal and is very efficient.
Super easy, not too much fabric, one loop and tie to secure, and that's it!
Seeking the help of a Babywearing specialist can be extremely beneficial as well and alleviate a lot of stress trying to sort out which carrier is the best for your family and baby. A local bw wearing specialist here in JC, Jenn Dickinson of http://www.altbabies.com/ holds monthly workshops and demos on different carriers and how to properly wear your baby, super helpful and I recommend to a new mom and family.
Continuing with the theme of detoxing from last Monday's post, and keeping up with Spring cleaning "out with the old, in with the new, time not only for external cleaning but internal cleaning as well. I have been working on staying diligent in mental, spiritual, and emotional cleansing, ridding myself of toxic thoughts, old habits, etc... refreshing and rejuvenating. One good way to do that is an ancient healing modality; Herbal Body Wraps. HBW's are great for toning, tightening, cellulite elimination, muscular/joint circulation, and purging the body of toxins. A great treatment for anyone to have but especially mothers who hold and carry a lot of tension and stress. Treat yourself right and investigate possibly trying this treatment out. You will be amazed...
The body wrap produces therapeutic and cosmetic benefits by cleansing the body of toxins and reducing inches. Body wraps are great for anyone who wants to improve, tone and tighten the look and texture of their skin, including people with loose skin from weight loss or pregnancy. Also those who experience joint pain and inflammation will benefit from the therapeutic effects of body wraps. Many people usually get their arms, legs and torso wrapped because those are the most common problem areas. This is done by massaging in the detox substances and wrapping it tightly with an elastic thermal cloth, which promotes sweating in order to shed excess toxins in the body.
When I was vending on Saturday, a wooden box that was part of the display fell on my arm, a little below my wrist and made a welt and there was a little puncture in my skin. Anyway, I immediately started feeling and seeing the inflammation take place and my whole arm started ache. I addressed the wound by clay packing it or putting clay from the herbal body wrap mixture I had recently made and the swelling and inflammation went down and I totally healed the small cut that moments ago was starting to bleed, amazing! Now imagine that for aches, or ridding toxins in the body. And guess what mommies, Abdominal wraps are helpful for posture and boosting confidence in women recovering from a vaginal delivery or c-section. The compression from wrap helps the uterus return to its normal size which lessens the appearance of a pregnant belly. Even though wraps won't get you back to your pre-pregnancy figure, it can somewhat speed up the process. What do you guys think? Will you try it? Let me know! and don't forget to subscribe and share with your friends! Enjoy your Monday everyone!
I am pretty much considered the granola, tree-hugging, "hippie chic" one in my family. The one that is always lecturing or min-lecturing my family about eating healthy, stating the importance of living a more green lifestyle with the products we use on and the food we ingest in our bodies. That's not always easy to get through to a large family that culturally loves certain types of greasy, highly saturated foods, and products they have been around since the Eisenhower days, pre-FDA regulated. However, it comes to no surprise that one of the major large companies that have been established for a very long time, finally admitted to their products containing carcinogens. The list of chemicals that Johnson&Johnson state they will be removing from their products, half of them you can't even pronounce? I know I cant, so it leads me to my next couple of questions, 1) if you can't pronounce it, barely can spell it, why is it necessary to be used in the formulation of the product? 2) why can't these type of companies make use of the large factories they manufacture and use, organic and/or non chemical components to make and preserve the lotions, soaps, shampoo, etc.... ? It always baffles me because an aspect of my brand, I make all the herbal homeopathic bath-body care products handmade and because I am a small operation and can't afford all of those chemicals, my products are naturally and/or organically preserved and specified to use within a 12 month shelf life period. According to the articles, the reason behind using the chemicals is because it keeps out, eradicates, and from spreading, growth of mold and bacteria. However when something is "live" it also has a period when it gets old and soils so that is a good indicator that live cells are going on the skin which operates much like a third lung. I get that bacteria can grow, but wouldn't this fare much better than "plastic" or foreign chemicals going on the skin and especially a babies and toddlers skin that is susceptible and still establishing? So why use these types of products on our children........ Johnson and Johnson finally admits their baby products contain cancer causing chemicals
and this one from holistic living
A product that I am very proud of and that has helped me immensely is Ian's Secret's baby/toddler organic travel toiletry kit from my brand Myrtle&Flossie herbal homeopathic bath/body care line. I created this with parents in mind who don't want to sacrifice quality, non-chemical, paraben free organic products while traveling within or out of the country. We also have a small line of products within the line specifically made to address an array of growing baby/toddler skin conditions. You can find more products and info at www.myrtleandflossie.com
Whether you are traveling or not, it is very important to be a conscious and informed consumer of what type of ingredients are going into the products you love and want to put on baby's skin. Remember baby's skin is delicate and is establishing as baby grows, so just be wise and take the extra step to do the research now so you won't regret nor have a situation later.......
