Mama Care Monday: Baby Wearing

1:57:00 PM

Babywearing is the practice of wearing or carrying a baby in a sling or in another form of carrier. Babywearing has been practiced for centuries around the world. In the industrialized world, babywearing has gained popularity in recent decades. Part of the reason for this shift is due to the influence of advocates of attachment parenting. Babywearing is a form of baby transport which can be enjoyed for as long as mutually desired, often until toddlerhood and beyond

MamaCare Monday's 💆🏽...

Taking a page from our ancestors' book and other civilizations when it comes to child rearing and soothing, one of
the practices that I particularly like and find beneficial to mothers, especially new moms, is the practice of "Babywearing". Wearing your baby not only soothes the child but also promotes or sets off a chemical bond between mother and child alleviating a lot of post "baby blues" and possible triggers for PPD....postpartum depression. Being hands-free, while simultaneously being able to care for your child, providing nourishment, and stimulation is paramount to a mother. It soothes mama mentally and emotionally as well, helping her so that she can be free and continue to help others.

One of the carrier's in particular that I like and used when my daughter was young is the K'tan which we carry @myrtleandflossie (no pun intended) based off the cloth wearing done in more rural civilizations and cultures, the K'tan in my personal opinion, achieves the same goal and is very efficient.
Super easy, not too much fabric, one loop and tie to secure, and that's it!

Seeking the help of a Babywearing specialist can be extremely beneficial as well and alleviate a lot of stress trying to sort out which carrier is the best for your family and baby. A local bw wearing specialist here in JC, Jenn Dickinson of http://www.altbabies.com/ holds monthly workshops and demos on different carriers and how to properly wear your baby, super helpful and I recommend to a new mom and family.
